ERIE COUNTY COUNCIL
VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS

General Order #6

December 1, 2011

Commanders Message

716-773-9376 / 716-622-6911

Comrades:

There are several very important items this month.

First, I have received a report on the unpaid members. If you
have an Officer, elected or appointed, and they have not paid
their dues by the end of December, they are no longer in good
standing and out of office. A list of unpaid officers can be
found on the
Membership page.

Secondly I received a copy of the unpaid membership for New
York. While we are at 90.12%, Erie County still needs 557
members either new, renewals or reinstated for 100%. There
are over 891 names on the list for Erie County Posts. For those
Posts wanting the names and contact information I will try and
have them available for the next meeting.

Finally, at the Fall C of A meeting it was voted on and passed
to require every Post within the Department to submit to the
Department a copy of your 990 IRS filing.

If your Post has been inspected, you are required to send a
copy of your report to Department HQS at 69 Sand Creek Rd.
Albany, NY 12205. If your Post has not been inspected, you will
need to supply a copy to the inspectors for returning the
inspection.

I will attempt to address any concerns or questions, at the
December meeting. Our December meeting will be at Newstead
Post 3180, 35 Lewis Rd. Akron, NY 14001 at 7 pm.

Commanders or one of your Vice Commanders should be in
attendance.

From Sue and myself, we would like to wish everyone Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year.

Yours in Comradeship,
Dan McMahon

A few words on present conditions affecting Veterans.

It is common knowledge that private insurance is being scaled
back. This means that the VA Health Care System will be
increasingly important in the future. We must recognize that
the VA is expanding services in response  to changes in our
Country’s military. The Iraq era has presented the VA with a
great number of new problems to address.

While the VA is expanding services to Veterans, we find that
the number of volunteers and donations are declining. To
volunteer your service to the VA contact Volunteer Service
Manager Mark Francis @716-862-8667 or go to the third floor
of the hospital.

Veterans Transportation is provided by the DAV. For morning
appointments, pickups are made by 7:30 AM. No transportation
is available for afternoon appointments.  Phone 716-862-6544.

Message to Cootie Members (MOC):  Please send your ticket
stubs and check to Lance Becker,  62 Steinfeldt Rd. Lancaster,
NY 14086. (No cash in mail please.)

FREQUENT FLYERS MILES
SOLICITED FOR VETERANS
WORLD WAR II TOURS-2012

(Per the State Commander's request.  For those who may have
interest. ~Art Koch)

This is the ninth year that Vi Ranney will be escorting veterans
and others to Europe for the 68th anniversary of D-Day.  The
tour is produced by Rupiper Travel and designed by WWII
veteran Dr. Brooks Ranney of Yankton, SD.  Highlights will
include:
•        Paris, Normandy and Eisenhower’s headquarters in France
•          Patton’s grave in Luxembourg
•         the Battle of the Bulge area in Belgium
•         the Remagen Bridge, Munich, Dachau, Hitler’s Eagle’s
Nest and more in Germany

The tour features professional guides, great hotels, most
meals and is economically priced.
Two departures are slated:
June 3-13 and August 8-18.  Veterans are especially honored
at the June 6th ceremonies.

Mrs. Ranney stated that “since our WWII veterans are elderly
and often living on a small pension, a trip like this is not
always feasible unless help is solicited.
Therefore, we are
asking individual, businesses, large corporations, VFW and
Legion Posts and Departments
for contributions of extra
frequent flyer miles
.  If we could get the air transportation
covered for our needy veterans, they could afford the rest in
most cases.  Each year I hear from between three and four
hundred veterans who would like to make the trip, but just can’
t afford it.  After all they have done for us, isn’t it a shame
they can’t go.  They need to go back and make a closure.  If
you can help, please call me,” she concluded.
Call Mrs. Ranney
at 605-665-3596 if you would like a brochure or to donate
frequent flyer miles.

With glorious thanks!
Vi Ranney
Yankton, SD

I would purchase an ad if you give me the details on deadline
and cost..
