This report is being prepared just one day before the Charles DeGlopper
Memorial VFW Post 9249 will host a seminar with the NYS Racing &
Wagering Board; results later.
There has been some talk about the progress of our Ways & Means
program. I can report I have some items from the Buffalo Bills and
Buffalo Bisons, but have heard nothing from the Sabres yet. I will work
something out and will give a report at our next meeting.
Our County Convention is drawing near. Your committee is working very
hard to make the convention an enjoyable one. Complete information is
available on-line at www.eccvfw.org. Forms, schedule and registrations
can be down-loaded there. We have sent the packets to the printer and
will be mailing them out shortly. PDC Bob Seagrave, Ad Book Chairman,
says that anyone who secures a commercial ad for the convention book
will be rewarded.
The Departments Legislative Committee met in Albany last weekend to
contact our State Senators and Assembly members. Those I met with
were very receptive to our concerns and seemed willing to support our
goals during the coming sessions.
At our last monthly meeting we learned of one, possibly two posts giving
up their charters. We need to do more to recruit and retain our
members.
PCC Dave Czarnecki spoke about the total department’s membership
level; if that total falls below 70,000 members we would lose a seat on
the National VFW Chamber of Administration (COA).
Commanders, Quartermasters and Post Membership Chairmen, divide
up your list of delinquent members and personally contact these
comrades. You will be surprised at the results.

Visit your town or village Tax Assessor’s office to request the names of
those veterans with overseas or combat service who have tax
exemptions. They have no legal right to refuse you. As they are all
computerized, it is a simple task for them. Bottom line, this will give you
leads for new members, Please take this suggestion seriously. God
bless our troops, and God bless America.

Adjutant’s Notes:
March is Women’s History month. There are 65,116 women Veterans in
New York State. In 2009, women made up 14% of Operation Enduring
Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is an active drive to sign up
many of these veterans to our membership. Our County Council contact
for these veterans is Marlene Roll (937-4549). The VA Program Manager
is Jill Barrett LaMantia (862-8891). Please publicize this to your
membership.
