ERIE COUNTY COUNCIL
VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS
General Order #4
September 1, 2010
Commanders
Message
Comrades,
First, thank you to those who attended the 2010 Erie
County Fair and those who participated in the
Veterans Day activities.
There are several dates and events, which are very
important to all of us.
IMPORTANT: IRS 990: I hate to repeat myself each
month. However, several Posts, Auxiliaries and
other entities of the local VFWs are not complying
with the IRS’s 990 ruling. There are only about 8
weeks left prior to possibly losing your not-for-profit
status for not filing. October 15th, 2010 is the final
deadline. Every not-for-profit must file by October
15th if you have not as yet done so. If there are
any questions, please call me for details.
DISTRICT 6 OTI: Another date is October 2nd.
District 6 Commander Dave Czarnecki has scheduled
an OTI school at Post 5007, Gowanda, at 10am –
2pm. Please mark your calendars and plan to have
all your officers and future officers attend.
POST REQUIREMENTS: During the past 2 months, I
have spent several hours calling Erie County Council
Post Commanders. There are several requirements
each post must follow each year; Election Reports,
Community Service Reports, and at least one
delegate to the National Convention.
MEMBERSHIP: Our membership theme for 2010-11
is “Replace yourself in the VFW, our ranks will
double”.
Please make every effort to attend your County
Council meetings. This is your organization. Our
next meeting is Monday, September 13th at Post
7545 the Frontiersman, 110 Elgin St., City of
Tonawanda.

On August 15th I attended the “Veterans Day”
parade at the Erie County Fair. The weather was
great.
My Post 7795 hosted a joint meeting with Elma Post
5861 on August 23rd. Everyone enjoyed mutual
comradeship including several interesting
discussions.
On August 24th Commander Dan and I attended the
Auxiliary meeting and dinner at the Harvey Morin
Post. I requested support from the ladies regarding
our “Ways & Means” program.
On August 25th I met with Kelly Carrigg, ECC
Trustee and member of our new Public Relations
Committee. Our main objective is to establish direct
relations with the Buffalo News and local TV stations,
as well as the area PennySavers. I would welcome
any suggestions you may have. You can contact me
either by phone or e-mail.
See you at the Frontiersman post 7545 on the 13th
of September.
Please remember that September 11th is “Patriots
Day”, lest we forget. God bless our troops and God
bless America
